Frequently asked questions

Here are a number of questions, and some anxieties, which students have aired before embarking on this course:

Are the teaching methods structured to suit individual abilities?
A variety of methods are used to ensure that all students receive teaching in a style which suits them.

How much study of medical science is required?
Enough to be able to talk to your patients comfortably about their medical diagnoses. In-depth knowledge is not required.

Will I receive individual attention?
Yes. Tutors are available to give individual guidance at the end of college days. In addition, telephone support, tutorials and supervision are also available. Our tutors pride themselves on being approachable.

How will I be assessed?
There is a process of continuous assessment, both written and oral.

Does the college teach more than one method of practice?
SECH teaches a variety of methods and prescribing strategies.

Is clinical training included in the course?
Yes, there is a clinic each month.

Will I receive advice on starting up my own business?
This is covered in depth towards the latter part of the course.

How soon will I be able to treat my own patients under supervision?
This starts formally in your second year, and by the end of your third year, you should have earned a Licence to Practise
under Supervision.

What size are the classes?
Classes are small: the maximum is around 15 students.

Will I be able to buy remedies from the college?
Yes. The college sells an extensive range of remedies in differing potencies, at reasonable cost.

Am I too old to study?
No. In fact, we find that mature people with life experiences are a real asset to the student groups.

Maybe I’m not academic enough?

You don’t have to be an academic, as the course is practical. Although there are some academic aspects to the course, help is available to enable you to complete the course successfully.
